Have you ever heard the song “This Is The Day”? I think that is one of the most amazing songs ever written; I love to sing it! And did you know that it is based on Psalm 118:24 (NKJV)?
“This is the day the LORD has made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.”
An amazing verse that inspired an amazing song…but have you ever really considered the meaning behind it? “This is the day the LORD has made.” God made yesterday, today, tomorrow…everyday. Sometimes, we don’t realize that without God, we would be nothing. Literally. Without God, we wouldn’t exist. Truly, the day that God has given us, today, is a magnificent gift. Isn’t that reason enough to “rejoice and be glad in it”?
There’s another verse I like that talks about celebration. Philippians 4:4 (HCSB) says:
“Rejoice in the LORD always. I will say it again: Rejoice!”
Paul, who is writing the letter to the Philippians, stresses the need to “rejoice in the LORD always” that he says it twice! Twice! You can tell he is really trying to get a point to this church! And, a couple thousand years later, us! That’s right; the same thing goes for us.
So I challenge you with this: Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: REJOICE!
