The Golden Rule

Everyone has heard of the Golden Rule, right? “Do to others what you would have them do to you.” It’s great, isn’t it? But did you know that the Golden Rule actually originates from the Bible? That’s right! Matthew 7:12 (NIV):

So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets.

Wow! “Do to others what you would have them do to you”–the Golden Rule is straight from God! When we treat others as we would want to be treated, we’re doing a God-thing. It’s a lot like “Love your neighbor as yourself”, which Jesus called one of the greatest commandments in Mark 12:29-30.

We may not live in a perfect world–that’s not going to happen until Jesus returns–but we can make a difference by obeying God and doing things like following the Golden Rule. Set an example for others, and do the God-thing!

    • When I was younger, I remember that I memorized the Golden Rule because some TV show turned it into a little ditty 🙂 I know I’m going to have it stuck in my head for the rest of the day! Thank you for your input!
