If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.
1 John 1:9 is an undeniable truth. It is also a truth that tends to be overlooked. The basic message that we need to see here is this: God has the power to clean up all of our messes.
There are times when we’ve felt that we’ve done the absolute worst thing. That there is no way God could ever forgive us for doing something like that. But do you want to know what’s really going on? It’s the devil whispering lies into your ear. That’s right! He wants you to think that God won’t forgive you, but that is a lie.
The verse above clearly says that God can forgive us, no matter what. What do we have to do to receive his forgiveness? We must confess our sins. This is very important. God’s forgiveness isn’t an automatic thing that just happens when we sin. We need to come before Him, confessing what we’ve done and and asking for His forgiveness. Once we’ve done that, He will forgive us.
It’s important to learn to shut out the devil when He tells you that you can’t be forgiven. But it’s also important to do our best to avoid sinning in the first place. You won’t be perfect, that’s for sure. But we need to remember that that’s why Jesus came: To make up for our imperfection. Once we’ve accepted His gift of salvation and confessed our sins, you can know that God will continue to guide you and help you grow in Him.
