Here’s a question: Who is comforted by God? And to clarify things, you can be comforted by Him in many ways. Through His Word (the Bible), a friend, a parent, or any number of things that would mean something special to you. Now, if I was going to trust my own pitiful, worldly knowledge, I would probably say that those who ask God for comfort would receive it. But the Bible says not to lean on your own understanding (Proverbs 3:5). So what do we do? I suggest going directly to the Scriptures to find our answer.
Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.
Ah, do you remember? We’re going through the Beatitudes! This is Matthew 5:4, and it clearly has our answer. “Those who mourn…will be comforted”! Guess my own understanding fell short, huh? (No surprise there!)
So here’s the thing: If you’re facing a difficult time in your life and you’re mourning, guess what? God is there for you! And while He has encouraged us to ask Him for whatever we need (Matt. 7:7), He will be there to comfort us no matter what. Isn’t that amazing? To me, it is such an encouragment.
Whatever is going on in your life, remember that He is with you!
