Are you a believer? If so, you probably experienced a radical change in your life when you put your faith in God. I don’t recall experiencing this overnight change myself, since I was five when I was saved (though I have heard countless testimonies of lives changed by God). And yet, I realize that my life did change, and is still changing; every day, I turn a little farther away from a life of sin and a little closer toward God. I also know that this is something I could never have done without Him.
Unfortunately, in the hectic whirlwind that we call life, we can lose sight of what brought about that change in the first place.
Now, brothers and sisters, I want to remind you of the gospel I preached to you, which you received and on which you have taken your stand. For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that He was buried, that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures. (1 Corinthians 15:1, 3-4 NIV)
As Christians, we just celebrated a major holiday: Easter. What an wonderful reason to celebrate! It’s because we know that “Christ died for our sins…that He was buried, [and] that He was raised on the third day”, all according to the Bible. And so it’s very easy, on that day, to remember why we can have such a close relationship with God.
However, on the other 364 days of the year, we are prone to forgetting that. We often forget the most basic thing, the foundation upon which our faith rests. That Christ died for us. That our sins have been wiped away. That we are going to spend eternity with Him in heaven. These are things we may casually talk or think about when we’re at church, taking Communion, or just have a quiet moment with God. But He made an enormous sacrifice because He loved us.
We aren’t perfect. Our attention slips and the focus of our lives becomes the next thing on our to-do list. But we can do everything through God, who gives us strength (Philippians 4:13). If you ask Him, He will help you to turn your focus on Him. He is your Rock, your Foundation.
God loves You. Always remember that. And if you haven’t joined His family yet, know that He is waiting for you with open arms.
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. (John 3:16)
