Romans 12:2 is a thought provoking verse. It says:
Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.
Dictionary.com defines conform as “to be or become similar in form, nature, or character” and “to act in accord with the prevailing standards, attitudes, practices, etc., of society or a group.” So you can see what it means by not conforming to the way of the world. But what does it mean by transformation and, more importantly, what decision have you made?
So I looked up transformation on Dictionary.com. Check it out: “to change in form, appearance, nature, or character.” This is very similar to the first definition of conform, but note that it uses the word change instead. Transformation isn’t an act. And only God can transform you “by the renewing of your mind.”
What is your stand in this situation? Have you chosen to be transformed and to become God’s child? Or have you decided to conform to the ways of the world? I’m sad to say that some people do both. They claim to be Christians, and very well may have invited Christ into their heart, but they’re living like the world. We should be a light to the world, but when we conform to the world, there’s no difference.
Listen to this song, I Choose Jesus by Moriah Peters. Don’t make (or remake) this decision lightly.
Don’t conform, transform. Choose Jesus.
