Making The Most Of Our Time

I’ve been writing a lot of posts on this subject lately, but coming at it from different perspectives. Since the topic is really time management, let’s look at it from one of the most straightforward ways possible: Idleness. Laziness. Whatever you call it, I doubt any of us have not suffered from an acute case of I-don’t-want-to-do-anything-right-now at some point or another. I deal with it all the time (as you may have noticed, I’ve been trying to overcome my laziness and blog more often!). And I’m not saying it’s wrong to relax every now and then, but are you making the most of your time?

In a previous post, my main point was that we don’t have all the time in the world. The song Blink by Revive talks about how quickly time passes, and how once the day is gone, there’s no way of getting it back. That may not seem like a big deal to you, but it is. At our age, it may seem like we have all the time in the world–we don’t.

Think about it. What did you do today, or yesterday, or last week? Was it something meaningful? Because, whatever you did, you will never get that time back. And we never know when our time is going to run out.

I’m not saying that, to make your day worthwhile, you need to change the world overnight or take the Gospel to kids in Asia. And while those things are great, we can make the most of our time even by doing little things. Did you read your Bible today? Or perhaps offer to do the dishes for your mom? Doing things like that may not seem like a big deal, and to some of us it may even look like a waste of time. But, for example, reading your Bible benefits you in ways you can never imagine it. It helps you grow as a Christian. And helping your mom with the dishes? It just takes five minutes, and even that little thing can brighten her day.

Doing good things with our time doesn’t start with big, incredible feats. It starts at home, at school, or at church. It starts when you share God’s Word with a friend who’s an atheist, or make friends with the new kid at church. When we fill our day with things that benefit others and help us grow in Christ, that’s the beginning of living our life to its fullest.

Ask God to show you how to make the most of your time. You may find new opportunities opening to you.

  1. So true and well said… so often we let days and weeks go past without doing anything ‘meaningful’ or asking God where he wants to lead… I think it’s so important to keep putting all our ‘minutes’ into his hands, asking what he wants for them.
