Love in Action

Happy Valentines Day! It’s funny, I had already planned to write a follow-up post on The True Meaning of Love, and it had totally slipped my mind that today was Valentines Day. Then again, the love I’m talking about in this post is a little different than the love our nation is focused on today.

Yesterday’s post was about God’s love for us. When God’s love is within us, we shouldn’t hide it! It’s something to be shared, something to be put into action.

You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father. (Matthew 5:14-16, NLT)

Love is amazing. Jesus said that all the Law hung on two commandments: Love God with all your heart, soul, and mind; and love your neighbor as yourself (Mark 22:36-40). There are 613 commandments in the Old Testament Law. That’s right, 613. But you can do all of that if you only follow these two commandments.

To understand this, think of the ten commandments. Don’t murder, don’t steal, use the Lord’s name in vain, don’t have other gods before Him. Well, love has got these covered. If you love your neighbor, you won’t murder or steal from them. If you love God with all your heart, you won’t use His name in vain or worship idols. If you love, if you really love, it is impossible for you to break any commandment. Of course, we are not perfect. We all mess up at times. But love for God and love for others will set you on the right path.

Before you love, however, God’s love needs to be in you. If you don’t have His love, there is no way for you to give it to others. This isn’t a question of whether or not God loves you, because He does. It’s a question of whether or not you are craving for His love. Do you want it more than anything else? Because if you ask, you will receive (Matt. 7:8).

Love in action. It can change the world. To get started, let it change your life.

    • Absolutely; God is love! God’s love is so amazing, so powerful. To be able to love with just the slightest fraction of His unconditional love would be incredible. I wish there were better words to describe it. Love is so simple, so pure, and it’s powerful enough to change the world.
