In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
Genesis 1:1, probably the most well-known verse in the Bible. Incredibly, in just a few brief words, it answers some of the greatest questions we’ll ever ask.
Where did the world come from? And Is there a God?
The verse clearly says that God created the heavens and the earth. Do you believe in the absolute authority of the Bible? Whether we believe it or not, truth doesn’t change. If you don’t believe in the absolute authority of the Bible, you can’t believe in the Genesis account of creation, for one. You can’t believe that a man named Moses parted the Red Sea, or that a man named Joshua destroyed a fortress by marching his army around it. You can’t believe that a virgin had a baby, and that that baby grew up and died on a cross to save us from our sins.
Maybe you believe that Jesus is Lord and you have accepted Him into your heart, but you can’t quite make yourself believe that God created everything in six days. Not believing in the the Genesis account of creation wouldn’t mean you aren’t saved, but here’s what I want to point out: Either the Bible is true, or it isn’t. Either every bit of the Bible is God-breathed, or it isn’t.
If some of the Bible doesn’t make sense to you, ask God for wisdom! A lot of times I read the Bible, I get confused. Does that mean it’s wrong? Absolutely not! It just means that I need to go back and spend some time in prayer and read it again.
While we’re on earth, we’ll never reach the day when we can say, “There I’ve got it! I’ve totally figured out the Bible and there’s nothing left to learn.” We are continually learning; the Holy Spirit continues to reveal things to us.
The Bible is the Word of God. If you’re struggling to understand something, just trust in Him.
