I first heard this song at a conference maybe a year ago. I liked it but soon forgot it. I then heard it on two different occasions a few months ago. Since then it’s become one of my favorite worship songs. I say “one of my favorites” because there are so many absolutely amazing ones. Lately, though, this one has stood out.
“Holy Spirit, You are welcome here
Come flood this place and fill the atmosphere
Your glory, God, is what our hearts long for
To be overcome by Your presence, Lord“
That’s just the chorus. The whole song is just packed with powerful lyrics (do listen to it above!).
What really affects me in this song is the cry for the presence of the Holy Spirit. The cry from within our hearts for God’s presence, for His glory and majesty. And we don’t just want to experience it; we want to be overcome by His presence.
What if we could live our lives that way? Desperately desiring the presence of our Lord and Savior. Thirsting for His love, His glory, His everything.
Unfortunately, that’s not how things work for most people. We live our lives and go to church on Sundays. We only expect to experience God at those rare moments at a conference. We spend a weekend totally focused on God and experience Him in incredible ways. Then we go home and forget about it.
The thing is, that’s not supposed to be a once a year experience. We can learn to constantly live in the presence of God. To experience Him in every moment of our lives, as we learn to focus on Him and make Him the central part of our lives.
Isn’t that amazing?
You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is
fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore. (Psalm 16:11)
