The Basics

Most of the time, I go into my posts expecting you to know the basics of Christianity, the Gospels, and the Bible in general. In case you don’t, however, here’s a brief overview:

(note: the following is done to the best of my ability and is probably not perfect, so bear with me!)

  • Sin

For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. (Romans 3:23)

Here’s the thing: God’s perfect. We are not. Sin, basically, is anything that goes against God’s Word–it’s anything that’s wrong. For example, lying is a sin. So the idea of this verse is that we’re all sinners.

  • The result of sin

For the wages of sin is death… (Romans 6:23a)

We’ve confirmed that everyone is a sinner, correct? And this verse clearly says that if you have sinned you deserve death.

  • The gift

…but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. (Romans 6:23b)

Though we are deserving of death for our sins, God has provided us with a way out: The free gift of eternal life. We cannot earn this gift, we can only accept it.

  • All who call

Whoever will call on the name of the Lord will be saved. (Romans 10:13)

There is no person who can’t be saved. There are only those who do not except God’s gift to us. This verse says that if you call out to God, He will save you.

  • Confess and be saved

If you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Jesus from the dead, you shall be saved; for with the heart man believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation. (Romans 10:9-10)

What is required in order to accept the gift of salvation? We must believe in our hearts that Jesus, the Son of God, bore our sins to the cross and rose from the dead three days later. Confess your sins and ask Jesus to come into your heart; as the previous verse said, all who call on the name of the Lord will be saved. That includes you.

For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life. (John 3:16)

God loved you so much that He sent His only Son to bear your sins, that you may spend eternity with Him.

All He asks is that you accept His gift and believe in Him.

Yet to all who did receive Him, to those who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God. (John 1:12)

If you ask Jesus to come into your heart, you are a child of God!

God bless you!
